What a 19th-Century Dane Can Teach Us About Formation
We are accustomed to striving to construct the self, but the 19th-century Christian thinker Søren Kierkegaard offers a sobering warning: “the greatest danger, that of losing one’s self, can occur so quietly that it is as if it were nothing at all.” The uncomfortable reality is that while many believe they have found their self, they have, in fact, already lost it—and remain unaware.
